HOFSTRA in GREECE

JANUARY 3-21, 2022 (This trip is now at capacity)

3 weeks of study and travel in sunny Greece; 3 distribution credits earned in Literature (Greek Literature in a Comparative Context, CLL 151, Professor Lekatsas) or 3 credits earned in History (Modern Greek History, HIST 177, Professor Demertzis)

Journey to a land where myth and history merge …

Enjoy a cruise to three islands (Hydra, Poros, Aegina) and trips to Delphi (the Shrine of Apollo), Nauplion (the first capital of the Greek nation), Epidaurus (an ancient healing center, with an amphitheater whose natural acoustics are still a mystery), and Mycenae (The Citadel of King Agamemnon).

Climb the Acropolis; enjoy the balmy weather, abundance of citrus fruit, museums, cafes, clubs, restaurants, and the sales in January; study at the super-modern Goethe Institute; and delight in private excursions and free weekends.

Included in the program costs are dinners together during class days (different restaurants with a selection of menu options); breakfast every morning on the penthouse terrace with a view of the Parthenon; excursions and museum fees; private bus transportation to and from the airport, as well as to the harbor (for the three-island cruise) and to Delphi, Nauplion, Mycene, and Epidaurus.

Estimated program costs (including all of the above, as well as hotel and airfare): $3,350

Note: Program cost is subject to change. Program costs do not include tuition.

A great introduction to the civilization and mountainous, sea-swept landscape of Greece, ancient and modern.

For more information concerning next year’s program, contact Professor Barbara Lekatsas (Comparative Literature, Languages, and Linguistics, Room 303 Calkins Hall; 516-463-5433 or 646-643-5855; barbara.lekatsas@hofstra.edu).
