Global Studies Major Julianna Cirafesi Does Summer Internship in South Africa
This past summer, Global Studies major and senior, Julianna Cirafesi had the opportunity to do an internship with pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca in Johannesburg, South Africa. Working with one of their corporate social responsibility programs, Phakamisa (meaning ‘to uplift’ in Zulu), she met with various officials, cancer experts and healthcare professionals to understand the community’s needs to support the program’s goal of increasing education and access for breast and prostate cancer patients as well as increase the public health system’s capacity to handle the growing number of cancer patients.
