Inaba Memorial Scholarship Awarded to Athraja deSilva – May 6, 2014
Athraja deSilva, a junior majoring in Global Studies, Geography, and Economics, has been awarded the Masaharu G. Inaba Endowed Memorial Scholarship for the 2014-15 academic year. Ms. deSilva, the second-ever recipient of this scholarship, was selected based on her academic achievement as well as financial considerations. Department Chair, Dr. Grant Saff, announced the award at the Department's Year-End Celebration, noting how Ms. deSilva has not only excelled academically, but also grown in her involvement in Global Studies and Geography, such as through peer teaching, Diversity Dinner presentation, and beyond. Donated by the Inaba family in memory of the late Dr. George Inaba, who taught Geography at Hofstra from 1959 to 1993, this scholarship award amount ranges between $5,000 and $6,000.
