DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science Co-op Program Offers Valuable On-the-Job Experience

We are now in our third year of the Co-op program working with students and a group of more than 140 companies. We successfully placed over 50 students and have a new cohort currently interviewing for our January 2018 class. We continue to work hard to build and improve our program which will attract additional top ranked students as well as top tier corporations looking to recruit from among our DeMatteis School graduates.

In the years ahead, we plan to further expand the corporate partners both in quantity and also geographically so we can offer students a wider variety of positions in a number of locations locally, regionally and beyond. Our long-term goal is for the DeMatteis School Co-op program to be nationally recognized as a premier educational opportunity that also meets the needs of Hofstra's corporate partners.

How does the program work?

DeMatteis School students in the Co-op program are hired by a participating company after the fall or spring semester of their junior year, and then they work on salary for a 6-8-month period in a field related to their degree program. After the completion of the Co-op experience, students return to Hofstra to complete their degree requirements.

This experience may lead to full-time job offers from companies that have had the opportunity to evaluate the potential and skills of their Co-op employee. At minimum, students have evidence of professional experience listed on their resume when they are seeking employment after graduation. The program has the added benefit of cementing ties between Hofstra's DeMatteis School and technology companies.
