Music Education: Career Potential
According to the 2016-2017 Occupational Outlook Handbook published by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the mean annual wage for kindergarten and elementary school teachers is $55,490; for middle school teachers is $56,720; for high school teachers is $58,030; and for post-secondary teachers is $75,430.
Among 2015-2016 Hofstra graduates who majored in music education, 100% of survey respondents reported that within one year of graduation they were employed and/or attending or planning to attend graduate school. Among those Hofstra graduates who majored in music education and who reported salary, the median annual self-reported salary was $48,000.
Outcomes are based on the 65% of 2015-2016 HCLAS undergraduate degree recipients who responded to a survey or for whom data was gathered from LinkedIn within one year of graduation, not the total number of graduates, and may not be representative of the total graduating population. The career outcomes rate includes those employed (full-time or part-time) and not employed but attending graduate school (full-time or part-time) next semester.
