EARTH DAY 2019: Local Change for a Sustainable Planet

The Center for Civic Engagement invites you to our annual Earth Day event series. Student clubs, community partners, academic departments, and environmental activists will gather together to celebrate and affirm the power of local action in the face of mounting evidence of our planet being in great peril.

Earth Day Outdoor Celebration
11:15 a.m.-12:40 p.m. (Common Hour)
Calkins Quad (between Hofstra Hall and Calkins Hall), South Campus
Rain Location – Multipurpose Room East, Mack Student Center, North Campus

Join CCE on the quad during Common Hour for tabling and musical performances.

Performances Include:

  • Making Treble
  • Poetry Reading
  • Performance of Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi" (environmental song)
  • Performance of 4 Non Blondes' "What's Up?" (social justice song)

Sustainability at Hofstra (A Deliberative Dialogue)
12:50-2:10 p.m., Plaza Room West

Deliberative Dialogues are hosted to find solutions and compromises for challenging ideas in a civil way. Join moderator David Hoffman, associate professor, School of Public Affairs, New York Civic Forum, Baruch College, City University of New York, and other students for a discussion on how to make the Hofstra campus more sustainable and how long it will take to achieve the proposed goals.
