JPMorgan Chase Art Travelers through Time:
Literacy and History through the Arts
Through a generous grant from JPMorgan Chase, the Hofstra University Museum initiated a ground-breaking school partnership with several neighboring communities. The program, JPMorgan Chase Art Travelers through Time: Literacy and History through the Arts, fosters links between classroom curriculum and the study of authentic cultural objects selected from the Museum’s collection. The program introduces children from Freeport, Hempstead and Uniondale school districts to the unlimited possibilities for museums to expand and enrich their world.

The program, correlating to the New York State Learning Standards in the Arts, Social Studies, Science and Language Arts, was developed collaboratively with museum and classroom educators. Tied to the third grade curriculum, it engages students and teachers in the discovery process of learning through objects. In-gallery museum experiences are complemented by the museum educators visiting the schools before and after the Museum trip.
