This exhibition includes publications, ephemera, photographs, newspaper clippings and artifacts related to sports on Long Island. The History of Long Island Sports Collection at Hofstra University's Special Collections Department covers a variety of professional and recreational sports. It includes baseball ephemera and photographs from local and national leagues. Golf, soccer, and tennis are also significant Long Island sports. The collection contains golf memorabilia relating to the US Open at Bethpage, as well as information on golf notables such as Marion Hollins and Jim Tingley. There are also materials about the TD Waterhouse Cup, the Hamlet Cup, and the US Open tennis matches. From the historical photographs, newspapers (covering events such as the Belmont races) to the pins, buttons, banners, and actual sports apparel, the exhibit chronicles Long Islanders love of "games."
