Between the Lines: Artists & Writers

January - July 2027
Emily Lowe Gallery

Between the Lines: Artists & Writers explores the intersection of the visual and written arts. The exhibition demonstrates the profound inspiration artists and writers have provided each other and the ways their disciplines have worked together to shape culture for thousands of years. Between the Lines: Artists & Writers analyzes artists who utilize text, relationships between artists and writers that have shaped the trajectory of art, authors who have inspired works of art, the influence of art critics, and individuals who identify as both artists and writers. The exhibition will display art from the Hofstra University Museum of Art's permanent collection and materials from Hofstra Library's Special Collections in recognition of collaborative efforts between museums and libraries to preserve stories from around the world.

In the spirit of collaboration, the Hofstra University Museum of Art asked community members to curate a digital exhibition about mentorship using works from the permanent collection. Learn more about the community curators, their artwork selections, and their scholarly projects below.
