The Greater NY Society of Public Health Educators (SOPHE) will sponsor continuing education credits for CHES and MCHES for attendance at Hofstra's NPHW Event Series. Approximately 1 Continuing Education credit will be provided for every 1 hour of attendance, up to 16 CE credits. There is a $10 processing fee.

4:00PM-6:00PM - DENTAL PUBLIC HEALTH: POLITICS, POLICY AND PRACTICE - PANEL DISCUSSION
Location: Axinn Library, Room 246, East Wing
Session Description: Dental health is closely tied to overall health and well-being. Dental health providers play a critical role in both individual dental health as well as in assessing and protecting the overall health of populations. In this session, we will hear from dental health practitioners who conduct health screenings, care for complex patient populations and integrate dental and medical care, and from a health law expert who will discuss dental health disparities and likelihood of comprehensive dental health coverage for all.
6:30PM-8:30PM - MANAGING CARE, COST, AND QUALITY IN AN ERA OF UNPRECEDENTED HEALTH SYSTEM CHANGE - PANEL DISCUSSION
Location: Axinn Library, Room 246, East Wing
Session Description: Industry leaders will discuss how the shift from episodic, reactive, and individual-level care to continuous, proactive population health has changed the way they manage health care for different patient populations, address cost issues and growth, and how they ensure quality across everything they do.

2:00PM-3:30PM - RADIATION SAFETY: HOW EXPOSED ARE YOU? - PRESENTATION AND Q&A
Location: Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center, Room 0127 Plaza Room West
Session Description: While there are many organizations and agencies working to protect the public from excess exposure to radiation from medical imaging, what can individuals do to protect themselves? This session will address some of the ongoing radiation risks to the population, discuss strategies in place for protecting the public, and highlight innovative approaches to assessing and monitoring one's own exposure.
6:30PM-8:30PM - MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS 2015: WHERE DO WE STAND AND WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE? – GLOBAL HEALTH SYMPOSIUM AND PANEL DISCUSSION
Location: Teaching Center Conference Room, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, 270-05 76th Ave, New Hyde Park, NY 11040
Session Description: In 2000, the United Nations established eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) ranging from reducing poverty rates to stemming the spread of HIV/AIDS to improving access to education for the world to meet by 2015.  These goals have sparked unprecedented efforts across the globe and have so far achieved substantial results; however, significant work remains.   This session will address progress thus far as well as challenges and what is being done locally, nationally and internationally to scale up sustainable and innovative solutions and to reach the poorest and most disadvantaged children and families.

8:30AM-1:30PM - NASSAU COUNTY MINORITY HEALTH CONFERENCE - FILM VIEWING, PANEL DISCUSSION, AND HEALTH SCREENINGS
Location: Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center, Multi-Purpose Room
Session Description: In the first conference of its kind in Nassau County, the Minority Health Bureau will present a series of speakers who will discuss progress in building health equity among minority populations in Nassau County.  The discussion will be followed by an interactive health education session and viewing of the acclaimed film, Soul Food Junkie.  Local high school students will be invited to the health and film screenings.
2:30PM-4:00PM - LOVE SHOULDN'T HURT: KNOW THE SIGNS AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT DATING VIOLENCE - DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PRESENTATION AND Q&A
Location: Axinn Library, Leo A. Guthart Cultural Center Theater
Session Description: Data shows that more than 25% of young people have experienced unhealthy, abusive or violent relationships. Such experiences can cause both short term and long-term negative effects, including poor performance in school and work, high rates of binge drinking, suicide attempts, and physical fighting. Victims may also carry the patterns of violence into future relationships. This session will discuss signs and symptoms of dating violence as well as strategies for disengagement, reporting, as well as healing and prevention.
4:30PM-10:00PM - PUBLIC HEALTH FILM FESTIVAL - FILM VIEWING AND PANEL DISCUSSION
Location: Spiegel Theater, adjacent to Mason Hall
Session Description: Thought-provoking films about various public health topics, including holes in the American health care system, emergency room crowding, health disparities and lessons learned by public health professionals, will be shown. Expert and student discussants will lead the Hofstra community in conversations about these challenging issues, highlighting areas for action.

11:00AM-1:30PM - THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX: STUDENTS PRESENT STRATEGIES FOR TACKLING CHILDHOOD OBESITY: INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDENT CASE COMPETITION
Location: Axinn Library, 10th Floor
Session Description: Society's most complicated challenges require multi-disciplinary solutions. To demonstrate the power of collaboration, Hofstra's School of Health Sciences and Human Services is hosting the 1st Interdisciplinary Student Case Competition. Students from schools and programs across campus are working together on teams representing many disciplines to find innovative and viable solutions to the problem of childhood obesity on Long Island. During this session, a panel of experts will judge student presentations and award cash prizes.
7:00PM-9:00PM - HEALTH CARE REFORM 2014 AND BEYOND - A SPECIAL PUBLIC LECTURE BY DR. JOHN MCDONOUGH ON THE IMPACT OF OBAMACARE
Location: Axinn Library, Leo A. Guthart Cultural Center Theater
Session Description:
This lecture will provide an overview of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, focusing on those aspects of the law that have already been implemented (and the people who are benefitting), those that have presented the greatest challenges and what we can expect this year and going forward.

12:00PM-2:00PM - HOW NURSES CAN HELP SAVE HEALTH REFORM – LUNCHEON AND PANEL DISCUSSION
Location: University Club
Session Description: The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is transforming how health care is delivered and how patients experience care. Nurses are playing an increasingly important role in the provision of primary care, care coordination, transitional care, and patient and consumer education. In addition, nurses are uniquely positioned to educate the public about reform and help navigate the most vulnerable patients through the new health care delivery system.
