CAREER READINESS CHALLENGE: FAMILY CHECK-IN

The Center for Career Design and Development staff will be hosting their first “January Career Readiness Challenge,” a 3-week program providing support for students based on their academic year. Our career advisors will guide your students through developmentally appropriate career-readiness activities such as creating a resume, practicing interviewing, gaining experience through micro-internships and networking with Hofstra University alumni through LinkedIn. This program (online or in-person) will give your students a head start on meeting important career readiness milestones prior to the spring semester. Students must pre-register for the program by logging into Handshake (select events, and sort by category “guidance” to find the appropriate challenge). These family Zoom sessions are optional, and students can participate with or without family participation.

Registration is open for Siblings Day! Younger siblings and relatives of Hofstra students, both residential and commuting, are cordially invited to visit our campus and have a fun day with their Hofstra students. Hofstra Siblings Day is a FREE program sponsored by the Resident Hall Association, Commuting Student Services and Community Outreach, First Generation Pride, Intercultural Engagement and Inclusion, and Parent and Family Programs – and registration is required. Parents dropping off siblings should allow them to attend sessions with their Hofstra students alone. Parents and family members are invited to a family reception hosted by Parent and Family Council, or a health and fitness class at noon.

*Please note that siblings will not be able to participate without submitting the Acknowledgement/Release Form signed by both the Hofstra student and the sibling's parent/guardian. Please email parents@hofstra.edu if you have any questions.

This workshop is designed to explore the concept of belonging and its impact on academic success, mental health, and overall well-being. The workshop will begin with an introduction to the concept of belonging and its importance in the context of higher education. Participants will be given the opportunity to share existing barriers and ideas for creating inclusive environments and promoting a sense of community on campus. The workshop will also cover strategies, resources, and the role of parents in supporting their college-aged children in their journey toward belonging. Overall, this workshop is designed to be interactive, engaging, and informative. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the importance of belonging in the college setting and practical strategies for promoting a sense of community and connection within their respective communities. The Center for Career Design and Development staff will be hosting their first “January Career Readiness Challenge,” a 3-week program providing support for students based on their academic year. Our career advisors will guide your students through developmentally appropriate career-readiness activities such as creating a resume, practicing interviewing, gaining experience through micro-internships and networking with Hofstra University alumni through LinkedIn. This program (online or in-person) will give your students a head-start on meeting important career readiness milestones prior to the spring semester. Students must pre-register for the program by logging into Handshake (select events, and sort by category “guidance” to find the appropriate challenge). These family Zoom sessions are optional, and students can participate with or without family participation.

Younger siblings and relatives of Hofstra students, both residential and commuting, are cordially invited to visit our campus and have a fun day with their Hofstra students. Hofstra Siblings Day is a FREE program sponsored by the Resident Hall Association, Commuting Student Services and Community Outreach, First Generation Pride, Intercultural Engagement and Inclusion, and Parent and Family Programs, but registration is required. Parents dropping off siblings should allow them to attend sessions with their Hofstra students alone.
