Hofstra Votes LIVE
Dean's Message
I’m very excited to see the Herbert School’s Hofstra Votes LIVE simulcast for the 2020 election.
There are few projects as complicated as tracking and reporting the results of a presidential election in real time. It takes a unique combination of journalistic acumen, production smarts, technical skill, and stamina to build an operation that can handle the massive amount of information generated on an election night and convey it to a wide audience. That is the challenge the students at the Herbert School have taken on.
As a broadcast news professional for many years, I led or participated in coverage for five presidential elections, working on everything from televised debates to election nights to inaugurations. These events were highlights of my professional career, so it has given me great satisfaction to help our students have that same kind of experience here at Hofstra. Starting with the first Hofstra Votes LIVE during the midterm elections in 2018, through last spring’s Super Tuesday primaries, to this general election, we’ve built up knowledge, skill and experience in the student-led Hofstra Votes LIVE team that will serve them well wherever they go.
This election is already historic. Everyone in our country will remember where they were and what they were doing when they heard who the next President of the United States would be. For the team producing Hofstra Votes LIVE, that will be an extra-special memory.
We hope all of our alumni, parents, students and supporters will tune in on November 1st and again on November 3rd for Hofstra Votes LIVE.
