About the Symposium
Teaching, Literacy, and the Human Experience of AI explores how generative artificial intelligence is transforming learning, authorship, and the work of higher education. This symposium invites educators, scholars, and learners to examine the opportunities and challenges that arise as human and machine intelligence become increasingly intertwined.

Keynote Speaker Dave Hansen (Author’s Alliance) will discuss how AI is reshaping authorship, publishing, and public-interest scholarship, with attention to the legal and ethical questions posed by AI-assisted creation.

A featured 90-minute interactive workshop will be led by Taz Daniels (CRLT at University of Michigan). Taz helps educators critically engage with the ethical, pedagogical, and human implications of generative AI. Her work supports faculty across the AI-use spectrum in thoughtfully considering when and how emerging technologies align with pedagogical goals, while remaining grounded in equitable and inclusive teaching practices.
Together, these conversations ground the symposium’s central theme: centering the human experience of AI to sustain critical literacy, responsible innovation, and meaningful learning across higher education.
