ChatGPT Edu can be an effective tool to support brainstorming, drafting, and exploring ideas. It should be used to support, not replace, your own judgment, analysis, and decision-making. All outputs from Hofstra ChatGPT Edu should be reviewed by the user, and revised, if appropriate, before use or distribution.

Students might use ChatGPT Edu to:

• Brainstorm ideas for essays, presentations, or projects
• Outline study guides or summarize course readings (with verification of accuracy)
• Draft practice questions for exam preparation
• Rephrase complex material in simpler language to aid understanding
• Explore different perspectives on a topic before forming their own argument

Faculty might use ChatGPT Edu to:

• Draft discussion prompts, essay questions, or rubrics (with personal review before use)
• Design lesson plan ideas and classroom activities
• Summarize scholarly articles to aid teaching preparation
• Generate accessibility aids, such as draft alternative text for images

Administrators and eligible staff might use ChatGPT Edu to:

• Draft communications such as emails, memos, or announcements (with review before distribution)
• Brainstorm strategies for events, outreach, or projects
• Summarize meeting notes or lengthy reports into action items
• Create templates for routine documents, such as FAQ handouts or guides
• Explore planning scenarios to support decision-making (while confirming outcomes with human oversight)

All eligible Hofstra ChatGPT Edu users have unlimited access to OpenAI’s GPT-5 model. Faculty and staff may request access to advanced models and features, including GPT-5 Pro, Deep Research, and Image Generation. To submit a request, send an email to help@hofstra.edu with the specific feature requested and a description of your use case. Availability of advanced features may change and is subject to licensing limitations.

The Library supports students and faculty in their use of Generative AI tools. Check the Library’s website for workshops, events, Ask-Us and consultation services, Copyright Help, the Library Guide “Artificial Intelligence in the Library,” and its Information Literacy course.

ChatGPT Edu is here to support your learning and serve as a guide. You must follow Hofstra’s Honor Code.

Each faculty member is encouraged to consider if/how these technologies can support their teaching and their students’ learning. Faculty should establish and communicate guidelines for use (or prohibition) in their classes. Students should consult with faculty on the use of AI in each course.

In general, you should disclose when you have used ChatGPT Edu. Example: “This work used ChatGPT Edu for brainstorming support.”

Your Hofstra ChatGPT Edu account provides unlimited access to GPT-5, the latest model, at no additional cost to you. Advanced features, such as Deep Research, image generation, and others, may incur a cost in the form of usage credits.

ChatGPT Edu accounts will be deleted upon graduation or withdrawal from the University.

As with all Hofstra-provided technology services, individual accounts are not routinely monitored. However, the University reserves the right to review the content of accounts when necessary to maintain system security, investigate suspected policy violations, or comply with the law.

Faculty may set their own rules for AI use in courses.

Students should consult with faculty on the use of AI in each course.

Employees should consult with their supervisor on the use of AI in their role.
