Zarb Student Success Stories

Name: Rucheng He
Major/Degree: Master of Science in Finance
Hometown: Nanjing, China

Why did you come to the Zarb School?
I came to Zarb School because of its location. As a finance student, it is important to connect with the real world. Being close to New York City makes it possible for me to meet many finance professionals.

Internship Experience:
During my two years at Hofstra, I had an internship experience at __________, during the summer in China. I worked as an assistant project manager to verify and improve the cost-benefit database. I was also responsible for providing cost-benefit analysis for projects. This experience allowed me to bring my technology skills to the next level.

Work Experience:
I started my current job after graduation. I work as a full time financial accountant at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC). SMBC is a great place to work and grow my professional and interpersonal skills.

How did the Zarb School prepare you for your career?
The Master of Science in Finance program provided me with real-world finance skills and knowledge, which I have integrated into my profession.

Graduate Business Career Services (GBCS) helped me a lot. The staff showed great knowledge with the critique of my resume and cover letter. Mock interviews greatly improved my interview skills.

What is your favorite memory/experience at the Zarb School?
My favorite experiences were the corporate visits organized by Graduate Business Career Services. It is such a wonderful opportunity to experience different corporate cultures and connect with Hofstra alumni. I have attended  five corporate visits, the last one at SMBC resulting in my current full-time position.

What advice do you have for students who want to follow in your footsteps?
I would advise students to utilize Graduate Business Career Services as much as you can. The staff is always there to help. Take the initiative, be patient and persistent.
