REGISTRAR
At Hofstra, we are committed to your success and have policies in place to support you during these transitions.
One such policy is our Repeat Course Policy, also referred to as the GPA Exception Policy.
If a matriculated undergraduate student receives a grade that does not accurately reflect their potential, they have the option to retake up to two courses (excluding those with grades resulting from Honor Code violations). Upon retaking these courses, only the new grade will replace the original grade in the calculation of your GPA if it is higher than the original grade. Students who bring their GPA and credits back up are unlikely to lose their scholarships. Students who don’t meet GPA requirements may risk losing them, but they’ll still remain enrolled. Be sure to connect with your Student Financial Services (SFS) Counselor to talk through your scholarship eligibility and any options available to you.
As you plan your upcoming semester, if you think the repeat course option may benefit you, we encourage you to contact your advisor in the Center for University Advising (CUA). They can assist you with the necessary steps and explore how this option can improve your GPA. Our goal with this policy is to help you and your peers make positive strides toward your academic goals.
Reach out to staff committed to helping you navigate challenges, discover opportunities, and achieve your fullest potential.
