Bio

Chris R. Vaccaro is a journalist, author and professor from Long Island. The Hofstra graduate, who majored in print journalism in 2007, has been an assistant adjunct professor at the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication since 2010. In January 2020 he was named director of the MA journalism program at Hofstra. He also serves as advisor for the Hofstra student chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). He was named Hofstra?s Young Alumnus of the Year in 2017.

The Emmy Award and Edward R. Murrow Award winner is Vice President of Digital News for Altice USA and has served as Editor-in-Chief of The Topps Company (yes, baseball cards!), as well as an editor and producer at the New York Daily News, Aol, and the Southampton Press. His work has appeared in the New York Times, Rolling Stone, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, The Athletic, and more, and he is the author of six books.

The immediate past president of the Press Club of Long Island (PCLI), Vaccaro is regional director of SPJ?s northeast region. As president of PCLI, the chapter was named SPJ National Chapter of the Year in 2016, as well as runner-up in 2015.

A passionate historian and researcher of local sports history, Vaccaro also serves as executive director of the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame, is on the board of the Italian American Baseball Foundation and is a committee member of the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame.

Aside from his undergrad at Hofstra, he has a master?s in public policy from Stony Brook, as well as certificates in executive leadership from NYU (2016), strategic storytelling from Columbia University (2019), leading organizations from MIT?s Sloan School of Management (2020) and executive leadership from Harvard?s Kennedy School (2021).
