Anthony J. Santella is an Associate Professor of Public Health and teaches in the Master of Public Health (MPH), Community Health, Health Sciences, and LGBTQ+ studies programs at Hofstra University. Dr. Santella also serves as Chair of the Nassau-Suffolk Ryan White HIV Planning Council, Governing Councilor of the HIV/AIDS Section of the American Public Health Association (APHA), and Chair of the Health Equity Committee of APHA. Dr. Santella is a public health scientist and health services researcher specializing in HIV and STI prevention and sexual health. His research interests include exploring the role of dental professionals (dentists and dental hygienists), community pharmacists and health educators in conducting rapid HIV testing, integration of PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV prevention) in primary care settings, sexual health promotion among suburban gay men and transwomen, and HIV and STI prevention in correctional settings. Dr. Santella is an Academic Editor for the journal PLOS One. He has also received grants from the foundation, university, and government sectors and has presented his work at local, national and international conferences and is currently funded by the New York State Department of Health and the National Library of Medicine. He is also a reviewer for several public health, sexual health, and HIV journals. Prior to joining the Hofstra faculty, he was Director of HIV Policy, Program Planning, and Implementation at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Assistant Professor and Director of the MPH Program at the Brooklyn Campus of Long Island University, and Lecturer of HIV, STIs, and Sexual Health at the University of Sydney, Australia. Dr. Santella earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Connecticut, a MPH in Health Policy and Management from Emory University, a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in Health Systems Management from Tulane University, and an Advanced Certificate in Health Professions Pedagogy and Leadership from Hofstra University.
