Dr. Janet A. Lenaghan became the first woman dean of the Frank G. Zarb School of Business at Hofstra University in January of 2019. During her tenure, the Zarb School developed several new degree programs which respond to emerging business and workforce trends. At the graduate level, she led the development of an interdisciplinary, theme-focused, experiential-based EMBA as well as new programs in cybersecurity leveraging the state-of-the-art technology in the Cybersecurity Innovation and Research Center. At the undergraduate level, she led the revision of the BBA to better align with market demand, increasing student outcomes. In addition, Dr. Lenaghan has focused on forging industry partnerships providing students with robust opportunities for experiential and interdisciplinary learning. With significant investment in sophisticated technology, the Zarb School recently opened a new Behavioral Research in Business laboratory where students and faculty can manipulate environmental conditions and use tools including eye tracking, facial analysis, and voice analysis software to study human behavior. Under a grant secured by New York State, the school recently renovated its classrooms, enhanced its academic trading room - which is equipped with 34 Bloomberg terminals, and installed the latest educational technology aimed at advancing the delivery of online and remote classes.

Under her leadership, the Zarb School has earned top rankings for its undergraduate programs and its portfolio of graduate programs, including its online MBA. Dr. Lenaghan is committed to creating a culture of inclusion which values diversity and equity. Recognizing the importance of the Zarb School’s impact on local society, Dr. Lenaghan is leading the efforts to broaden community engagement through innovative programs such as financial literacy for youngsters, developing an entrepreneurial mindset for middle school students, and mindful leadership designed to build resiliency.

A renowned expert in human resources management, Dr. Lenaghan is regularly quoted in local and national media on workplace issues, most recently, about how businesses and workers are navigating workplace changes related to COVID-19. An accomplished scholar, Dr. Lenaghan has presented her research at international, national, and regional conferences and has published in a variety of academic journals. She currently serves on a number of advisory boards including the United Way of Long Island, the EFMD Global Network Americas, and the Long Island Software and Technology Network. Dr. Lenaghan has twice been recognized by students as a Hofstra University Teacher of the Year (2016 and 2003), and was among the first Hofstra faculty to embrace online instruction as an original professor in the Zarb School’s online MBA program.

Dr. Lenaghan received her doctorate degree from Pace University, an MBA from the Frank G. Zarb School of Business, and her undergraduate degree from Adelphi University. Prior to being named Dean of the Zarb School of Business, she served in many administrative roles including the chief human resource officer and most recently as vice dean of the School of Business.
