DEPARTMENT OF
Understand the forces that shape society, culture, and social interaction.
Hofstra’s faculty apply rigorous social science methods to examine a wide range of issues, including the criminal justice system, health, labor, religion, immigration, human rights, and the environment. The department is also home to the Center for Public Archaeology and the Food Studies program.
Through coursework and hands-on participation in scholarly research, our students develop the critical reasoning and theoretical, analytical, and communication skills needed to understand and address social problems and inequalities in global, institutional, and interpersonal social relations.
As members of disciplines that study what it means to be human from every angle, we are pleased to play an active role at Hofstra University not just in our major but also through our cross-cutting ties to other disciplines and campus-wide programs.
