TITLE IX

Title IX is a federal civil rights law that protects students from sex-based discrimination. This means that at Hofstra University, you have the right to learn, work, and participate in all aspects of campus life free from sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating or domestic violence, stalking, or other forms of gender-based discrimination. As a part of our mission, Hofstra University strives to cultivate students’ social and ethical responsibility, and emotional and physical well-being on our campus. 

The following is a brief description of the typical types of incidents handled by the Title IX Office for Student Issues:

Unwelcome sexual behavior (verbal, physical, or online) that affects someone’s ability to study, work, or feel safe.

Any sexual contact or act without clear, voluntary consent.

Abuse or violence in a current or past romantic relationship.

Abuse or violence by a spouse, partner, roommate, or family/household member.

Abuse or violence by a spouse, partner, roommate, or family/household member.
