NASPA Awards at Hofstra

Three members of the Hofstra University community were honored by the National Association for Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Region II for their commitment and impact on the lives and experiences of students:
  • Sofia PertuzSofia Pertuz, Assistant Vice Presidents of Student Affairs and Dean of Students, Scott Goodnight Award for Outstanding Performance as a Dean

    “I am so proud to represent Hofstra University and our Division of Student Affairs,” said Dean Pertuz. “It's clear that I am in good company here as I also congratulate my fellow award recipients. There is a wonderful energy and excellent leadership here at Hofstra, inspiring us all to do our very best work with our students at the center.”
  • Holly SeirupHolly Seirup, Vice Dean of the School of Health Professions and Human Services, Robert H. Shaffer Award for Academic Excellence as a Graduate Faculty Member

    “I was humbled to hear that I was nominated for this award,” said Dr. Seirup. “Over the years, I have participated in many NASPA-sponsored professional development activities including attending an annual conference where I was interviewed for my first position at Hofstra.  I consider having the opportunity to work with and teach dedicated and engaged students and colleagues across campus as a highpoint in my career.” 
  • Kristen KleinKristen Klein ‘16, Resident Assistant for Student Affairs, Rising Star Award to the Outstanding Undergraduate

    “I am incredibly humbled and honored to have been nominated for this award,” said Klein. “The mentors I have had during my time at Hofstra University as a resident assistant are my inspiration. They have challenged and supported me, and have shown me what it means to be a leader, educator, and a student affairs professional. They are the reason why I am pursuing a career in student affairs, and I share this award with them.”

Vice President for Student Affairs W. Houston Dougharty takes great pride in the achievements of the three honorees.  “I am so pleased to see our colleagues and students being acknowledged through these prestigious awards,” he said.  “I believe this recognition is representative of the outstanding commitment and hard that we take pride in providing to our students.”

All three were recognized in June 2016 at the NASPA Region II annual meeting at John Jay College, and were finalists in the national awards for their respective categories.
