PARENT AND FAMILY PROGRAMS

ORIENTATION

Welcome to Hofstra’s Parent and Family Orientation. This program offers parents and family members of new students an introduction to the college transition, academics, and campus life through information sessions and opportunities to connect with staff and current students. Please note that Parent and Family Orientation is separate from New Student Orientation.

The program is held in person on Hofstra’s campus. On-campus accommodations are not available for families; please refer to the Directions page for nearby hotels offering Hofstra rates. We also encourage you to subscribe to the Family Link e-newsletter to receive important updates and information.

Students
Hofstra University’s Summer Orientation for first-year students is a three-day, two-night, on-campus program. Students who have submitted their deposit may register for their preferred session through the student portal. Attending orientation in person allows students to become familiar with campus, connect with classmates, and take part in a range of engaging activities. Both residential and commuting students are expected to stay overnight. Students should regularly check their Hofstra Pride email for updates on arrival times, health and safety information, and placement exams. Additional details are available on the New Student Orientation page.

Parents and Family Members
Parents and family members are invited to attend Parent and Family Orientation, a separate program held on the first day of New Student Orientation from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.* Students may register their guests through the student portal at the same time they register for orientation. Program details and updates will be shared via email. If you plan to attend a session different from your student’s, please email orientation@hofstra.edu and include your student’s full name and Hofstra ID number (ex: h70xxxxxxx).

We encourage you to review and use the Important Conversations Family Guide when discussing alcohol and drug use, as well as sexual violence prevention, with your student before the start of the fall semester.

During Parent and Family Orientation, you’ll have the opportunity to meet and hear from campus partners who support both you and your student inside and outside the classroom. We know this can be a lot of information to take in, and not everything is easy to remember afterward. To help, we’ve compiled a series of video Q&As from our panelists that you can revisit anytime, at your own pace.
