RESIDENCE LIFE
Resident Success at Hofstra is everybody’s business. Hofstra students, faculty, and staff are partners with the University in creating an atmosphere that is engaging and conducive to learning. The Resident Success program is an integral part of campus. It is a unique effort that strives to provide students with the support and engagement they deserve on a college campus. The program effectively tracks the flow of residents and guests who enter the residence halls, and ultimately creates an atmosphere of community and engagement.
The Residential Success Representative (RSR) booths at the entrance of each building or area complex are staffed between the hours of 5 p.m. and 5 a.m. During the hours of 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., when the booths are unstaffed, residential students will have access to swipe through the ADA doors of their buildings in order to bring through packages or larger items that would not typically fit through the turnstiles. Additionally, all undergraduate residential students will have swipe access to all other undergraduate residence halls 24/7 to visit their friends, study with their classmates, or attend a program they are interested in. Students must swipe to gain access to the halls.
If a student wants to register a visitor during the hours of 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., when the booths are unstaffed, they should go to the RSR Office located in Room 147A, Wellness and Campus Living Center.
During the hours of 5 p.m. to 5 a.m., students will register their visitors at the booth. All visitors must be accompanied by their host at all times. Upon their arrival, the visitor will need to provide their ID for the RSR to create a reservation in StarRez. If the visitor is not a current Hofstra student or an alum who graduated in Spring 2023 or thereafter, and a visitor profile has not been previously made for the visitor, the RSR will create one, capturing an image of the visitor’s ID and listing their general information (i.e., first name, last name, date of birth, ID type, ID description). The host will then need to provide their Hofstra University ID to verify their identity and confirm their residence hall assignment. If StarRez is down, the RSR will use the traditional Sign-In Sheets to register the visitor and will hold onto their ID for the length of the visitor’s stay. All visitors must notify the RSR or, in the case that the RSR booth is not staffed, the RSR Office at 516-463-6612 or RSR@hofstra.edu, of their departure.
Please note that bringing an unregistered visitor into the residence hall is a violation of the Guest Policy and may result in a referral to the Office of Community Standards.
Residential students may have up to three visitors signed into their residence at a time.
Failure to comply with the ID Policy will result in the issuance of a warning, fine, notification to appear, or campus ban.
For more information, please contact the Resident Success Office at 516-463-6612.
Residents of Graduate Residence Hall are expected to create reservations, arrive, and depart their visitors through the Hofstra Housing Portal.
Residents and their visitors will receive confirmation emails of their reservations. They must present their confirmation email to any Hofstra administrator at any time, including Public Safety Officers, Resident Directors, Resident Assistants, and RSR staff. Please note that failure to properly register a visitor or present a valid confirmation email will be considered a violation of the guest policy.
Guest Policy Reminder
The Living Factor states that “Guests of residents may remain overnight for no longer than three consecutive nights and six nights total in a semester but not without prior approval from the resident’s roommate(s) and suitemate(s) (if applicable). … Residential students may sign in only three (3) guests at a time. Failure to abide by these policies, procedures, and regulations will result in an initial warning. A second violation will result in an automatic fine in the amount of $100. Students with a third violation will be referred to the Office of Community Standards and may result in additional fines and/or indefinite revocation of guest privileges in Hofstra’s residence halls and complexes.”
Visitor reservations can only be made online for visitors 18 and older. Reservations for minors must be requested by emailing RSR@hofstra.edu.

Many students choose to work as Resident Success Representatives (RSRs) because of its many benefits. Some of those benefits are:
- Contribute to the engagement of your campus. As an RSR, you play an important role in welcoming and creating a sense of home for all residential students. RSRs take pride in their jobs, knowing that they help make the campus a more welcoming place.
- Choose your own hours. Students are able to create work schedules that accommodate their busy lives.
- Work close to home. Working on campus makes employment accessible to students who do not have their own transportation, maintain hectic schedules, etc. Some students may even work in their own residence hall.
- Meet new people. The Resident Success program is made up of about 100 students. RSRs have extensive contact with residents, their guests, and other RSRs. This exposure can lead to new friendships.
- Gain great work experience. Working for Resident Success prepares you for future employment when you graduate from Hofstra University. You gain valuable experience dealing with people, problem-solving, and customer care.
- Opportunity for advancement. RSRs can apply for the Resident Success Shift Coordinator positions when they feel they are ready to take on additional responsibilities. Resident Success Shift Coordinators can advance to the Student Coordinator position, the highest position available to students in the Resident Success program.
